Mission Statement for Technology Education

Mission Statement for Technology Education involves the following two important aspects- 1. Human innovation in action that involves the generation of knowledge and processes to develop systems that solve problems and extend human capabilities. 2. The innovation, change, or modification of the natural environment to satisfy perceived human needs and wants. Technology education is a study of technology, which provides an opportunity for students to learn about the processes and knowledge related to technology that are needed to solve problems and extend human capabilities. (ITEA 2003) Students involved in the Pre-Engineering program at Norcross High School strive to learn more about the technological world that inventors, engineers, architects, and scientists have developed. Pre-Engineering students at Norcross High are constantly participating in thought provoking projects that push their minds to new levels. These projects are created to contextualize the technology lab setting in order to help students explore the problem solving process that engineers and scientists use everyday. Projects consist of exploration of mechanical design, static's, dynamics, hydrodynamics, manufacturing/prototype development, and three-dimensional design. Pre-Engineering projects at Norcross High are designed to help students build a sound comprehension for the importance of documentation. Students are assessed through rubrics, learning logs, portfolios, and reflection. Students must be able to state why their design succeeded or failed when questioned by the instructor and/or through written assignments. Also students are required to make presentations of their designs before the class in order to prepare them to make presentations as engineers do to their committees in the workforce.
